Annual events on Bute include ButeFest, Bute Highland Games, Bute Agricultural Show and Tractor Rally. Throughout the summer, the ’Waverley’ paddle steamer calls at Rothesay.
A car is not essential but offers most flexibility and facilitates sightseeing - there is plentiful free parking in the car park opposite the flat. Buses run regularly from one end of the island to the other on the east side of the island. In summer the open-top sight-seeing bus drives around the island every hour and it is possible to get off and on. The daily ticket for this bus is also valid on all local buses. Cycling is a great way to get about, there are no extremely steep hills and the island is a very manageable size. Electric bicycle hire is available from the Rothesay ferry port and Port Bannatyne.
