Positive: The view from the apartment is breathtaking, so if your goal is to relax and enjoy the scenery from the private balcony, this is the place for you. There are 2 restaurants nearby and a cute little grocery store that had all the basic essentials we needed for our 3 day stay. The bed was quite firm but was fine for our short stay. The host provided plenty of info for self-check in and navigating the immediate area and was quickly responsive when a thunderstorm knocked out the internet. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely return but wish we had planned a little better for transportation around the area.
Negative: This apartment is located in Perledo which is a tiny town up the mountain from Varenna. The point-to-point distance is short, but a switchback road connects the 2, so if you are wanting to explore more of the Lake Como area, relying on public transportation may not be a good idea unless you don't mind booking taxis. Varenna has a train station and ferry port that allows for more exploring, but there are only a few buses per day that go between Varenna and Perledo, so lots of planning and flexibility are required. On our last day, the morning bus to Varenna never came, so we had to walk down the mountain to the train station and change our train tickets since the missed bus caused us to miss our original train, but everything worked out in the end.
