‘Earth Ship’s' 2,000-square-foot open floor plan features polished concrete floors and huge, glass windows overlooking the breathtaking neighboring canyon. Located on 35 wooded acres adjacent to BLM land, you're surrounded by peaceful, beautiful nature as far as the eye can see. With the abundance of natural light streaming indoors, the unique, inside light fixtures won’t even be necessary on sunny Colorado days.
Relax on either of the plush sofas in the living room and gaze out upon the canyon and beautiful blue sky. On chilly evenings, put some wood in the living room’s wood-burning stove to effectively warm the whole house - a supply of firewood is provided outside.
Stunning counter-mosaic countertops, made from reclaimed tiles, are the focal point of the fully equipped, open kitchen, which has everything you need to cook your own meals during your stay.
Dine al fresco on the deck, which overlooks the canyon and surrounding plain, dotted with pine trees. The back deck is the perfect place to watch the clouds move across the canyon. If the weather’s not on your side, enjoy your meals indoors at the large formal dining table, adjacent to the kitchen.
The uniquely-decorated master and second bedrooms both feature queen beds, and the spacious living room has 2 futons serving as additional sleeping options.
The Mexican-inspired full bathroom has marvelous mosaic counters and a walk-in shower while the half bathroom features an eco-friendly composting toilet, sink, and electric dog door for your furry friend.

‘Earth Ship’ is located on an 35 wooded acres, adjacent to BLM land near the edge of a canyon, ensuring privacy and tranquility throughout your stay - the closest neighbors will be the local wildlife!
Hiking enthusiasts can explore the property, or take a drive up to McInnis National Conservation Area, which has plenty of hiking trails, as well as river boating. There's plenty of prime hiking and mountain biking trails just minutes away!
The Colorado National Monument is approximately 5 miles away from the property. You can hike, bike, or drive through the monument and take some amazing pictures of the scenic views and majestic wildlife along the way!
If you want to get back to civilization for the day, Grand Junction is only 30 minutes away. The city has a number attractions downtown, and is also located near some more great hiking trails.

Summary: We have stayed in a lot of amazing vacation rentals, but the Leaping Lizard Ranch one was BY FAR the most unique and extraordinary property we have ever seen! The house itself is a design wonder and unlike anything we have ever experienced. The well thought out design was not only comfortable and hospitable, but aesthetically pleasing and even educational. If you have never stayed in an Earthship before I highly recommend the experience. My wife and I loved learning about how the house was built and how it functions (there are several books in the property about Earthship design) and our children were endlessly fascinated by all of the different features and functions of the home. You would think that staying in an Earthship would be a rugged, "roughing it" experience, but this home also came with all of the modern conveniences and creature comforts that you would come to expect from any vacation home. The moat AMAZING feature of this property, however was just outside the back door. This home is located in a remote location high above Grand Junction directly on the lip of your own private canyon! The views of this canyon are simply BREATHTAKING and we spent most of our time simply gazing out over the beautiful expanse. This is truly a million dollar view with one of the most picturesque vistas I have ever seen. The views change throughout the course of the day and I honestly can't decide which view was more beautiful - dawn, midday, dusk or evening. We could have stayed at this property for another two weeks and it was an experience that my family will never forget. Most importantly, Didi and Rick were two of the most lovely and gracious hosts I have ever encountered. They greeted us upon our arrival, showed us the many unique features of the home and made sure that our every need was taken care of. They were always available when needed and they were a great resource for exploring the local attractions. Thank you so much, Didi and Rick for sharing your magical little piece of paradise with us all. It is one of our favorite vacation stays of all time and we plan to return again and again!
