Summary: Hotel Venusia is a beautiful hotel in the rather remote town of Venosa. We were there for two nights at the end of October, which was clearly off season. Our hotel room was large and clean, with a nice balcony. The downside was the bed was very hard, and the bathroom, particularly the shower, very small. The staff were wonderful, very helpful and friendly, even though we speak no Italian. Breakfast was good, and we also had dinner both nights, which was very good and inexpensive. We didn’t find any other hotels or restaurants in the area other than a very good pizza and pastry place for lunch. We went to Venosa for wine tasting in the Aglianico del Vulture region, and we were not disappointed. The wine here is, in our opinion, the best in Italy, and the surrounding small towns at the base of Mount Vulture were interesting to visit, though our GPS did send us on some rather harrowing roads. If you are going to this area of Italy I would definitely recommend the Hotel Venusia. There is also a beautiful pool and garden area which would be lovely earlier in the season.
