Nestled in the countryside in the hollow of a beautiful rural & natural environment preserved by bocage plains, the last town having hosted a floating mill on the Doubs (one of the very last in France), Pontoux also has a 27 ha pond. protected in "Natura 2000 Zone" (1.5 km), a sensitive natural area unique in Burgundy (nesting of many birds with more than 130 recorded species, including one of the largest colonies of gray herons in Saône-et-Loire).
