The Neighborhood:
Amadora BD is just a five minute walk from the apartment. Located to the north of Lisbon, this vibrant suburb offers an authentic local feel while still providing easy access to the city centre via the Metro.
A highlight of the area is the impressive Queluz National Palace, a stunning blend of Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical architecture. Once home to the Portuguese royal family in the eighteenth century, its grand interiors and Versailles inspired gardens make it a beautiful spot to explore without the usual crowds. Another historic landmark nearby is the Águas Livres Aqueduct, an eighteenth century gothic structure that once carried fresh water more than 20 kilometres into Lisbon.
Amadora is also great for families. Kidzania, a modern children’s theme park, features a full indoor replica city where kids can role play careers from firefighters to vets.
While central Lisbon offers a larger dining scene, you will still find plenty of good options locally. Cozinha Velha serves contemporary regional cuisine in a stylish setting, while Restaurante Realmente offers excellent seafood, including a highly recommended octopus salad, along with vegetarian and vegan choices.
