Positive: Really convenient location, a 2 min walk from the cairns lagoon and the many restaurants on the esplanade. Rooms were spacious and very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Having a washing machine and tumble dryer in the room was a bonus.
Negative: The pictures of the mantra hotel in my opinion are a little misleading. Though the rooms were comfortable and clean, they were dated. The furniture clearly looked dated, as did parts of the bathroom. The pool is quite small with not much seating around it so often felt crowded. The flush system in one of the rooms took an age to refill, and the buttons didn’t work well. The air con works but takes time to cool the room down and is noisy. The washing machine was handy but both the washing machine and dryer were very noisy - you could hear when other apartments were doing their laundry (which occurred only once overnight so wasn’t a massive deal). Though I didn’t have any issues with check-in, and the hotel were more than happy to keep our luggage as we arrived early, there were customers who’s rooms were not ready at the check in time. Staff advised them to return 1-2h after the check in time but did not offer guarantees that the rooms would be ready. This is pretty poor service as short delays are understandable but if clients have paid for a room they should have access to it at the allocated time. Overall, I am not convinced the price reflects the amnesties offered by the mantra, especially with so many other hotels nearby. The hotel is however very conveniently located and staff are very friendly.
